Apollo Gets a Hollywood Reopening
A crowd gathered under the Apollo’s 1950s-style marquee Friday, October 2, as President Marvin Krislov and Board of Trustees chair Robert Lemle ’75 joined producer, writer, and director Jim Burrows ’62, his wife, Debbie, and husband-and-wife actors Danny DeVito and Rhea Perlman in slicing through a crisp red ribbon, symbolizing the long-awaited reopening of one of the country’s few remaining single-screen theaters.

The Hands Behind the Hymns at Senator Kennedy’s Funeral
While hundreds of mourners raised their voices in a touching rendition of America the Beautiful as the casket of Senator Edward Kennedy was carried out of the Basilica of Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Boston, Oberlin Professor of Organ James David Christie provided accompaniment throughout the ceremony on the Basilica’s sonorous 3,200-pipe organ. Given the spread of the 2009 H1N1 virus throughout the United States and the world, Oberlin College officials are strongly advising the campus community to remain informed and to minimize the opportunity for infection. 2009 Alumni Association Awards
Each year, the Oberlin Alumni Association recognizes several alumni whose achievements or contributions to Oberlin and/or society are considered exceptional. Ten such alumni were honored in September during the Alumni Association's fall dinner and awards ceremony. [Read More]

Alumni in Service to Oberlin College
Oberlin’s 40,000 alumni are an invaluable resource for the college, especially when they return to campus and share their careers, talents, and life-after-Oberlin stories with current students. So far this academic year, the Alumni in Service to Oberlin College program has brought three such alumni back to campus. [Read More]

Junot Diaz

Soon after the start of fall semester, prominent guest speakers began visiting Oberlin. One of them, Junot Díaz, was the winner of the National Book Critics Circle Award and the 2008 Pulitzer Prize.
